YWCA Get Gorgeous for Grad Coming Soon!
Spring is a special time of year when our community celebrates the achievements of young women and men as YWCA St.Thomas-Elgin accepts donations of new and gently worn dresses, suits, ties, shoes and more through Get Gorgeous for Grad for those who may not be able to afford such items for graduation or prom. Through this program youth celebrate this important academic milestone and build self-confidence.
YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin is pleased to announce that they will be hosting this year’s annual event the week of May 16, 2022. Offering a special opportunity to Elgin County Grade Eight and high school graduating students who find it financially difficult to find formal wear for their graduation ceremony.
You may be asking, what’s most needed? YWCA explains that often the young men are overlooked for donations. YWCA will be accepting dress shirts, suits, jackets, ties and shoes for grade 8 boys, plus-sized attire for young women and men (no more than 5 years old), gift certificates for local shops, boutiques and salons such as Winners, Giant Tiger and Hush.
Youth interested in participating in the Get Gorgeous for Grad program are asked to register in advance starting Monday, April 4 by calling 519-631-9800 to book 45-minute an appointment. These boutique style appointments are confidential, and all gowns and suits are free of charge. Students are encouraged to bring a parent, close friend or family member to help them choose their outfit. (one guest per student) COVID-19 screening and protocols will be in place to keep our students and staff safe.
